Homeostasis--Hallway

It may seem nuts to have an entire blog post about our hallway.  I offer three responses.  First, we did major construction in the hallway!  Second, it took me, like, three days to figure out how to make our paintings look nice hung in this hallway.  Finally, this post is more "hallway plus" than "hallway."

So there.

No real estate photos of the hallway, per se, because...  it's a hallway.  We do have this photo, though, which shows that there used to be a view from Eddy's office into the old kitchen.

Since then, we closed up the door from the hallway to the kitchen. For a long time, the hallway looked like this.

Note the emerald green archway color we were playing with that ultimately did not make the cut. After I added a new light fixture to the hallway (it was so dark!) and Eddy got the walls all textured and patched, this is what we ended up with.

A little difficult to photograph, but one of my favorite spaces in the house now.

If you've been following the blog or if you have been to the house, you will also know that Eddy's office and my workshop are also on the hallway. Here's the before of Eddy's office.

The Forgotten Quilt

So, this quilt wasn't actually forgotten.  It's just pretty pricey to have quilts quilted and some other quilts butted in front of it and now, here we are.  I started this quilt almost a year ago when we were living in temporary housing.

Finally, I bundled it up with some others that needed quilting and took it in to my wonderful quilter.

Here is her beautiful work!

It's sort of impossible to capture with a picture since the fabric is so crazy in this quilt, but the quilting is full of little hummingbirds and flowers and other old lady favorites.

Just look at that pretty binding!

Homeostasis--Kitchen Armageddon

Remember the real estate photo of our dining room?

2150.04

The little doorway there looks into the kitchen. Here's a view from the living room.

2150.03

One of the first things we decided about this house was that we wanted that wall to go. We were all ready to wait awhile to do that. That is, until we started using the kitchen. This is what the kitchen looked like when we moved in.

2150.06

You may notice that the only appliance in the kitchen is the stove. What you might not know is that when we moved into this house there were three doorways into the kitchen: one from the dining room, one from the hallway, and one from the back yard. None of these doorways would accommodate a full-sized fridge. I repeat. We could not put a fridge in this kitchen unless we ripped out walls. We measured. And remeasured. And thought creatively about how we could fit a fridge into this room. Finally, we got to work bashing.

We ripped the cabinets out ourselves (which, somehow did not end in a trip to the ER).

And we tiled the floors.

Here is the end product, complete with fridge that fits in the room!  Huzzah!

We (affectionately?) refer to this time in our lives as "kitchen armageddon" because there was a period of about 3 months where we could not cook food, we had no dishes, and we had no table and chairs. Somehow our marriage survived.  We're not sure how.

Remember Easter?

It was awhile ago.  But we had some fun and took some cute pictures so I thought I would share. We always decorate eggs (as if we are both small children...)

Also, I don't usually post pictures of food because I think they all tend to be a bit unflattering unless you are much better with a camera than I am, but Eddy made this tart.

Please, if you like food at all, make this tart. It will blow your mind. That is all.
