Rupert Crochets

My mom hasn't been feeling well lately and I've been wracking my brain about how to cheer her up.  Finally, I saw this tutorial and some yarn I thought she would like and I set to work.

Rupert insisted on helping every step of the way.

Or glaring or whatever.

IMG_20170301_180449.jpg

It was pretty exciting once it started coming together.

Then I packed it up and sent it on its way!

I mean Rupert packed it up and sent it on its way. Good work, Rupert.

I'm a Weaver Now

I've been really obsessing about weavings lately.  You know.  Tissage.  Textiles.  WEAVING.  Finally I worked up the gumption and bought a loom and some books.

IMG_20170303_112544.jpg

I warped it and started weaving. Eep!

IMG_20170303_124612931_HDR

Rya knots!

IMG_20170303_130052751

It's so pretty from the back.

IMG_20170303_133755530_HDR

Almost finished!

IMG_20170303_151902799

Here it is in its new home!

IMG_20170304_123912.jpg

I told Eddy all that driftwood I gather at the ocean would come in handy! Ha!

Curves are Schmancy

I really like piecing curves, so I decided to do some for our new dining room. Look at those pesky curves.

IMG_20170227_164147136_HDR

Rupert helped.

IMG_20170227_172214315

I tried some more free motion quilting! Getting a little better these days.

IMG_20170228_152038.jpg

Here's the top all quilted up. Also more Rupert. Dude loves quilts.

IMG_20170301_120703970

Here's the backing I chose.

IMG_20170301_121437922

It looks great in its new home!

How great is our dining room starting to look!?

Paris By Myself

The reason we visited Paris was that Eddy was attending a conference.  That means I was lucky enough to get loads of time in Paris by myself.  It was basically heaven.

In summary, I drank so much chocolat chaud à l'ancienne.

IMG_20170117_124102.jpg

I also just sort of wandered around and saw whatever I felt like seeing.

IMG_20170117_134307539

IMG_20170117_140311439

All day.

IMG_20170118_105218802

IMG_20170118_112338805_HDR

Can I just say, I love the Louvre, but the best thing there? Clearly the hot chocolate.

IMG_20170118_114926368

IMG_20170118_115015097

I also checked out the Paris Aquarium.

IMG_20170119_124721662

It's right by the Eiffel Tower.

IMG_20170119_154557868

What? The Ocean? Oui, l'Ocean!

IMG_20170119_125302150

IMG_20170119_133853229

I also did a fair amount of this type of thing.  (MACARONS!)

IMG_20170120_102522987

Also so many museums and libraries. The Musée de Cluny had this cute signage around all of their restoration construction.

IMG_20170120_104753501

Also I went to the BnF and saw some incredible exhibits.

IMG_20170120_143137166

IMG_20170120_150825920_HDR

I visited Sainte Chapelle because it's just my favorite little place.

IMG_20170121_162914535

IMG_20170121_162133458

And I went to the antique shops!

IMG_20170121_114642223_HDR

There was some weird stuff there.

IMG_20170121_115835931_HDR

IMG_20170121_124513276_HDR

Some amazing weird stuff. I had the opportunity to purchase an original oil painting of a sad clown flipping off the viewer and I didn't buy it. I'll have to live with myself now.  Knowing.  That I didn't buy that painting.  Le sigh.

Second Birthday Surprise

Eddy got the shaft this year as far as birthdays go.  During his birthday, the house was being painted.  We went to his favorite Portland restaurant, but we just didn't get to do too many of the special things we normally do.  Namely, make cakes.

So one weekend we headed out to the beach.

IMG_20170223_094935.jpg

We got all the way out there and I waited until Eddy was good and distracted and I snuck into the kitchen and iced this German chocolate cake I secretly made the day before and lit all the candles. He was surprised!

IMG_20170223_120637735

Probably he was surprised because it wasn't anywhere near his birthday at all. I'm so sneaky. Also I made him this birthday quilt because I realized in all the years we've been together I've never made a single quilt just for Eddy. Isn't that sad?! I remedied it with crocodiles.

IMG_20170223_200643097

Just look at those cute crocodiles!  On a side note, do you know how hard it is to lie to your husband for a solid week about what you did while he was at work?!  I told him I was sick, I faked that I was working on "computer stuff," I artfully changed the subject.  That was actually the hardest part of making this crocodile quilt.

IMG_20170214_154605984

IMG_20170215_131849854

We also had our usual beach fun (otherwise known as cheese tourism).

IMG_20170223_170059474

IMG_20170223_170215352

Also we did some super Eddy-friendly things. Like visiting lighthouses.

IMG_20170225_114600434_HDR

Eddy loves lighthouses. Look how wee this one was.

IMG_20170225_114926861_HDR

The weather was absolutely gorgeous!

IMG_20170225_113813293_HDR

IMG_20170225_112503530

And we drove out to a new beach!

IMG_20170225_123030249

IMG_20170225_125953172

But as always, it was Norman who had the most fun at the beach. He got Eddy to throw things for him.

IMG_20170225_153016723_TOP

He refused to let Eddy throw things for him.

IMG_20170224_153522.jpg

He basically just ran around all weekend like a majestic dork.

IMG_20170223_150046.jpg

IMG_20170225_172658.jpg

IMG_20170225_161345052

It basically just resulted in a whole lot of this type of thing.

IMG_20170223_161353358_HDR

Happy surprise second birthday to my Eddy.
