Gourmet the Tray
Remember these?
Well, we've got a set. We had our good pals Rebecca and Alan over for dinner the other night and we decided to revamp some lunch tray favorites and serve them up. By we, I mean Eddy.
Normally I help cook when we entertain, but the menu happened to be chock full with Eddy specialties. So I played hostess.
Oh, wait. I guess Eddy did that too. In the end our excitement/hunger made us forget to take any pictures of the finished trays, but here's the plan.
I assure you, the mac n' cheese tasted way better than this looks.
Mmm... Macamaroni and cheese...

Oh, the Weather Outside Was Frightful
This past weekend, we visited Chicago for Beth and Eli's wedding!
The wedding was beautiful and we had some much-enjoyed quality time with family.
Not to mention some much-enjoyed roasted chestnuts.
Chicago, on the other hand... Well, it was cold.
I mean, really cold.
We had to use our favorite hotel as a thawing out home base, but we did manage to do some of our favorite things on the Magnificent Mile.

School's Out for the Winter!
I graduated from Library School! I took my last final on December 6th and a celebration ensued.
Today I am enjoying my last College Release Monday off of work before I have to start working 5 whole days a week like a normal person. I am also applying for my first librarian job! Wish me luck!

Happy Weekend!
After all that wedding planning, we started to forget what it was like to have a real weekend together with no stress. So, finally, after Thanksgiving and an out-of-town meeting, we finally got a chance to remember what is was like to have a fun weekend together.
We started off Saturday with a fun visit to the Houston Dairymaids, a funny little warehouse in the Heights that distributes local cheeses from all over Texas. (But we forgot to take pictures, doh!) Next, we visited a fun grocery store / farmer's market just up the street:
They had the most gorgeous produce, and they even had fresh beans:
Today, we took a 15 mile bike ride to train for the MS 150, a 150-mile bicycle race from Houston to Austin. Here we are at the halfway point:
Then, finally, we got a chance to do some Christmas decorating. Look at me precariously perched while pushing push-pins:

Cold Conference in Canadia
Just flew back from a meeting at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Canada, and boy are my arms tired! Plus, it was freaking cold up there! Here is me (in a nice shirt, no less!) in the dusting of snow we got:
Don't be fooled by my posing, though: those people in the background are obviously cold! Most importantly, however, I brought back a honey cruller from Tim Horton's. Nicci's favorite!

My Work is Famous!
When I got to the office today, there was a humongo box on my desk. Inside was this gorgeous new book.
It features two images from our Luis Marquez Photographs collection in the UH Digital Library. I myself sent these images to the publisher awhile ago. (I send out lots of images to publishers, but we don't often receive fancy, glossy new books in return.)
Visit our the Marquez collection to see all 25 of the beautiful hand-tinted color photographs. It's one of my favorite collections.

Let Ye Olde Merriment Begin
This Thanksgiving weekend, we made merriment at the Texas Renaissance Festival with DP2.
Yes, the nerds in costume were out in force. Let's just say this sign did not apply:
Sadly, most of the costumes we saw were not Renaissance per se. We saw these guys, for instance:
And there were lots of these guys.
The good news was that we got to do (and throw) lots of Renaissance-y things.
We even took in some real live (fake) jousting.
We were ye olde wiped out when we got home!

Thanks!
In the spirit of overeating on Thanksgiving, we began the day with breakfast at our favorite local diner.
The rest of our day was spent relaxing at home where we prepared enough food to feed a family of six.
Hope everyone had a very special Thanksgiving!

The Small Big Birthday
We planned a small birthday for Eddy this year since we are both working hard to finish up with work and school responsibilities before we head off to the wedding this weekend. So we had our quiet breakfast at home. I made Eddy some French toast and he made himself a coffee beverage.
and I gave him his small present--we're planning an fancy dinner out when we get back from St. Louis.
We planned a small dinner out that night and a drink at the Ginger Man to round out the day. But when we spotted a tandem bike for sale, the small quiet birthday got bigger. We headed out after work to take a look at the bike and we fell in love. We packed it into the car and hauled it home just in time to head back out to dinner just before they closed! Whew!
When we get back from St. Louis, we'll say goodbye to our much loved vintage Columbia tandem.
But with the new bike, we are planning to take on the Houston --> Austin MS 150 with DP2 this spring!

Housewife Sauce
It's the weekend before our wedding! What should we do? Last minute arrangements? Nah, we don't really have any. Projects and crafts? We already did all of those. How about a trip to our favorite Asian grocery store to get some delicious delicacies for our short work week before we head out for the wedding!? Here are a few of our favorite finds.
And finally, my favorite: House Wife Soy Sauce. That's right!

Anyone Else Have These as a Kid?
They're those little magnetic letters! We had these growing up and I swiped them from our house when I left for college. Since then, I have slowly added to our collection. As you can see from our previous concoctions, we were always short on vowels and popular consonants.
This year for my birthday, Eddy surprised me with 84 new letters! In celebration, here is the first verse of one of my favorite poems!

Farewell, Austin
We've had a great time in Austin (overindulging in food and drink at every possible opportunity). But TSFB travel isn't all fun and games. Check out what happened to Eddy's poor finger the night before we left town. Ouch!
Besides, Captain Duvet was really getting homesick!
