Nicci's New Job

I knew when Eddy took his job in CA that I would have some time off work.  What better time to get reacquainted with quilting!

I started quilting again when we were living in the hotel and I've made quite a few beauties so far!

and it's going to live on our bed. (You know, someday when we get around to decorating the bedroom...)

I've also just finished a very special quilt that mom bought for me and that Eddy and I worked together to refurbish.  The before:

It was gorgeous, but it had the most awful cartoon grasshopper + orange square sashing.

Awful cartoon grasshoper + orange square sashing that really did not match the 1930s awesomeness that was this quilt.

Also, it was just badly sewn together and in need of some TLC. So I started to rip the whole thing apart, but let's face it. I just don't have the patience for tasks that require meticulousness on an ongoing basis. Enter Eddy.

He worked and worked and worked on that quilt and took almost all of it apart by himself.

Then I pressed and squared and repieced the whole shebang.

You can bet when it came time to add our very own signature squares I embroidered one just for Eddy.

Many, many, many more quilt posts to come. After all, quilting is now basically my full-time job.

Colorful Colorado

8.20.2013 060

There are a few things from our Road Trip that I consider my favorite things about the trip.  Basically, everything about Colorado fits that bill. First, we got to hang out with my childhood bestie, Laura, which can be a rare occasion since we're always separated by geography one way or another.

8.20.2013 062

While we were in Boulder I took Eddy and Norman on one of my favorite hikes just outside the city.

8.20.2013 081

It was so hot that day that non-water-dog Norman even went for a little dip.

8.20.2013 089

Eddy managed to do a little bouldering.

8.20.2013 076

And we took in some local Boulder culture.

8.20.2013 100

Next, our friends Damon and Linda were generous enough to let us experience their gorgeous Colorado cabin for a few days.

8.20.2013 103

8.20.2013 114

We did some hiking.

8.20.2013 130

We did some relaxing.

8.20.2013 125

8.20.2013 124

And we took in the gorgeous views from the back deck.

8.20.2013 104

Including these dudes.

Tune in next Tuesday for Wyoming and South Dakota!

Project House Sunshine Fuzzy Bunny!

In addition to the amazing summer Road Trip, we also moved to California!

It was tough to pack up and leave our Houston friends.

8.20.2013 005

8.20.2013 003

It was also hard to leave our very first house (aka Dream House Sunshine Fuzzy Bunny).

8.20.2013 031

Our neighbors came over to watch the big truck load up on our last day.

8.20.2013 034

And on our last night there, we had to bunk on the living room floor!

8.20.2013 035

We still felt a bit homeless when we got to CA. First, we lived in a hotel for a month with a huge dog and two cats.

10.28.2013 073

Guess where Rupert loved to hang out...

10.28.2013 093

10.28.2013 071

Finally, after 6 weeks of road trip and 4 weeks of hotel living, we bought a house in San Jose!

10.28.2013 091

It sort of needs a whole heck of a lot of work. It's one big Project House Sunshine Fuzzy Bunny!

Remember This?!

Remember this blog?!  It totally still exists!  We've been super busy with some pretty big adventures lately, so in order to catch up there will be some blog time travel.

Dial your calendar back to August, when we were preparing for a cross-country road trip.  When the big day came we finally did get all that stuff packed on top of our trusty Subaru.

8.20.2013 016

8.20.2013 022

Then we hit the road with a car packed full of camping gear and a 65 pound pit bull!

8.20.2013 048

We saw a few sights even before we even left Texas. For instance, giant Sam Houston!

8.20.2013 040

Also, I did step foot for the first time on the campus of my MLIS alma mater, University of North Texas. Norman also stepped foots there.

8.20.2013 042

When we got to Kansas we could not resist stopping to see the giant Van Gogh.

8.20.2013 053

8.20.2013 059

So many giant sights to see!

Tune in next week for time travel to Colorful Colorado!
