Okay, so, by far the best part of my birthday trip this year was that WE WENT TO CANADA TO DO ANNE OF GREEN GABLES STUFF! Because we are weirdos, we decided to wear these red wigs when we saw all of the Anne things.
By far my favorite thing about this series of pictures is that Eddy's wig became increasingly disheveled over the course of this amazing day.
Seriously, so disheveled.
Eventually, he put a wig on his wig.
It was kind of an improvement.
We even found some pussyfolk (as Lucy Maude Montgomery likes to call cats.)
We did just a tiny bit of Anne stuff without our wigs, but why?
Seriously. What was the point of those last three pictures? Just a waste.
Best. Birthday. Ever.

Li'l Quilts, Big Friendships
We had the opportunity this winter to make little quilts for two very good friends.
First, our friend Jeanne severed a nerve in her hand. She has an amazing blog about her road to recovery. We wanted to do a little something for her just to let her know that we love and support her, so obviously we collaborated on a quilt.
This was my vision. Look how great it looks. I promise it will look better when it's finished.
Eddy started us off with the paper piecing and applique.
Then I took over and did some fancay free motion quilting.
Then Eddy took, took over and added these milagros for luck.
Then I took, took, took over and added the binding and backing and two little sleeves for hanging.
We sent it along to Jeanne with some local jams and about 3 million well-wishes.
The second good friend who got a quilt this winter is my dear friend, Laura.
I started with some fabrics from my stash.
And I used a pattern that reminded me of my favorite painting that she painted when we were in high school.
The icing on the cake is that Eddy and I actually got to hang out with Laura in DC in December! Here we are with a literal Jolly Green Giant made of plant matter.
Here's the most adorable picture ever of my two favorite goofballs in front of a model of the Capitol made entirely out of plant matter.
No plants were harmed in the making of this blog post.

Apparently I Like Oysters Now
After Montreal we headed to PEI, which was the definitely the highlight of the trip. The beaches were stunning.
Eddy saw umpteen lighthouses (because he's super into lighthouses.)
Also we saw this.
Whatever this is.
A weird thing happened, which is that I think I like oysters now.
We also snuck an historic home in on the day we flew home.
Furthermore, Eddy hugged this cow, so overall, pretty great trip.
More to come, though, because I saved the best part of the trip for last.

Kites and Triangles and Half-Hexies, Oh my!
My grandma taught me how to quilt and I have tons of reasons to be grateful for that. This year I wanted to make her a really special quilt for Christmas. I picked out tons of fabrics I thought she would like, and an old-fashioned pattern that I knew she'd love.
For those who like tesselation, here's a satisfying picture of me cutting and marking millions of kite shapes.
SO MANY.
Eventually, I made the kites into these triangles.
And the triangles into these half hexies.
I arranged my half hexies into rows.
I pieced them all together.
I did a ton of free motion quiting, not all of which I'm 100% happy with, but I am pleased with the overall effect, so let's just never speak of it again.
Here's the finished quilt.
Merry Christmas, Moe! That's what I call my grandma. My brother made it up.
